Horton Cottage

Weather near perfect, sunny and no rain. Horton Cottage was roomy, comfortable, furnished and cold ac. Week stay was Sunday to Sunday. Only problem: Cable TV reception failed on Thursday morning. Called Suncoast office and reported issue for three days. Problem was never fixed. Nice large screen TVs in each room were unusable. Overall, nice house and location, poor management by Suncoast.

My family of 6 recently stayed at the Horton Cottage. After staying at another rental last summer in St George that was a couple rows back from the beach the location of Horton was great. It’s right on the beach and a very short walk to the sand. The beach was not busy at all at this location and we were probably not set up 75’or so to the next family. The driveway is plenty big enough for several vehicles. Although the interior is a little dated the house was very clean and had lots of room and everything you need to cook, etc. My only complaint and not a big deal was the outside furniture on the deck was not in good shape and a couple of the loungers were broken. If there were a couple taller chairs and maybe a table on the deck it would be great. It would allow you to see over the railings to the beach and enjoy your coffee outside in the mornings. I would absolutely stay here again though.

House was clean and nice location. Kitchen is nice but could use a few more items. The out door shower is lacking. There were paving blocks on top of pallets that moved when you stepped on them causing a fall, so we didn’t use the shower the bath to beach is overgrown and very narrow making th walk to beach difficult. We enjoyed our time at the beach but probably wouldn’t rent this house again. Seems like they started a renovation and stopped.

home is in a great location right off the beach. The home was very clean when we arrived. There are no frills in this home but it is very clean. Beds were comfortable. Could definitely use some updates and more kitchen items but no issues during our stay. There are no closets for your clothes.

Check-in process was easy and the staff was very helpful. The posting had limited pictures of the bathroom and the bedrooms. We assumed that the bedrooms would have closets but to our astonishment, they didn’t. The secondary bedroom didn’t have any storage other than a wire shelf hanging on the wall.

We’ve stayed in bigger, but this was comfortable and close to beach! No frills, but clean! We had to evacuate one night for Hurricane Idalia, but SunCoast was so nice and let us stay an extra night at no cost or would’ve refunded us if we couldn’t come back!

Best beach area on East Gorrie Drive. Large concrete area under house for vehicles and beach chairs and things. Air conditioning works great!! Home needs better dishes, pots and pans. Ice maker works great!!Location is excellent.

Working with Suncoast is so smooth! We have stayed with them now for at least 10 years. This was our 3rd stay (2018,2022,2023) in the Horton Cottage. We will stay with Suncoast again, and I am sure we will stay in Horton Cottage again! Also, just a short drive from the house.....you will find the best coffee shop on island, check them out too, BAYSIDE COFFEE.

Great location and view of the beach. First time there and already have my name in the books for next year.

We absolutely loved our stay at Horton Cottage. You can watch the dolphins from your dining room table! The unit is very clean and well equipped. It's not the Ritz but you will love it here.

Our stay was just what we needed. We had everything we needed and the house was plenty big enough for the four of us. It was nice to just walk out right to the beach.

I come to St George at least twice yearly. Horton House great location. Peaceful and believe house beside it to east is not a rental. Nice living room and kitchen. Big dining room table. Big master bedroom with ocean view. Air conditioning works great. Plenty of hot water. Newer fridge and dishwasher. Good washer and dryer. Concrete parking underneath. Older home so know this isn’t the Ritz. Beachfront one of best areas on E Gorrie. Easy access to and from beach on good path. Would rent it again. We didn’t use bunk room which sleeps 4 easily. Great for kids. Plenty of games.

Horton Cottage is an affordable house that gave my family a chance to stay on the gulf at a popular time of the year. Most houses are more expensive and therefore beyond our reach. For that, I am grateful and we enjoyed our stay. The house had a great selection of board games and puzzles which we enjoyed together. We rode bikes to and from the grocery store, so the location was super convenient for us. It is not a luxury house though (and to be fair, it represented as one by the rental agency).

We had a few relatively small complaints mostly related to the cleanliness of the house. We found hair in the silverware drawer, so had to wash everything before eating. There was sand and shell fragments in the dryer, so had to clean it out before using. Also there was no ice maker in the fridge and no ice trays when we arrived, which was a surprise. The rental agency brought us trays the next morning though.

Check in was at 4:00 and we arrived to SGI around 3:00. We went by the house to confirm that it was empty before going to the rental office. Even though it was vacated, we were not allowed to check in early. Again, a minor inconvenience that seemed a bit needless.

The only drawback the kitchen faucet needed changed didnt have much flow and the hose to the fish cleaning table had several pin hole leaks in it and would spray everywhere causing very little flow out the end. With a new garden hose and kitchen faucet the place would have received 5 stars. Both of these are minor and we would stay again.

Overall our stay was good. Great location. Affordable. Fireplace does not work as advertised in the property information. Called rental company and reported this. They never sent anyone to fix fireplace.

Close to the beach! Needs some TLC!

Wonderful house and location. Very clean and comfortable. Location is perfect. There was an issue with AC during our stay, however, Suncoast had someone onsite and problem fixed within 30 minutes.

Loved that the property is right on the beach with amazing views and easy access! That was the main thing we were looking for. As for the cabin itself, some of it has been updated, some has not. Kitchen has been updated, and most of bathrooms but not toilets. The living spaces are dark with wood paneling. The set up of the house is nice with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths (one is a jack and jill). The toilets, bed sheets, and couches did not seem clean to me. Overall, we would recommend this property due to location.

No closets in bedrooms which I had already read on earlier review so I took over the door hangers. I would suggest removing pictures and installing shelving that includes hanging bars for clothes. Enclosing a portion under the house would allow guests to keep beach stuff from being visible from the street. HC is an older home but it is still a nice place to stay with an excellent ocean view, easy sand path to beach, great A/C, and comfortable beds. With a little work and minor updates this place could be greatly improved to better serve guests. Deck chairs were good but lounge chairs were broken. Would definitely stay here again.

SGI was amazing as always. Suncoast continues to be our choice based on the long standing and consistent service from their team. Horton, however, is in need of repair- roof leaks are evident with interior repairs done poorly. Deck railings need replaced; outside furniture at end of life.

This property has a roomy living space, comfy beds and a nicely renovated kitchen. The location can’t be beat. Beautiful views of ocean from most rooms of the house. There is a laundry room on main floor of house. Loved that. As other reviewers mentioned the kitchen is not well-stocked. We had to borrow a baking pan from friends staying near by. We had a small maintenance issue that management promptly responded to. Overall we really enjoyed our stay — great location, roomy interior and reliable service from property management.

This was exactly what we needed. Once up the outside stairs, everything is on one level. Plenty of living room seating, beds, bathroom towels and tvs. The view is fantastic. The kitchen seems to be better stocked than some previous reviews but sharp knives and a pizza slicer would really help. Several of the full loungers on the porch are broken so watch you dont get an inconveniently placed pinch :) We had to use bathroom towels in the kitchen but we had that luxury because we didnt have as many people there as bath towel sets. As others have said, make sure you take blankets and beach towels. The sofas are leather and can be cold so you might want an extra blanket for those unless you move yours back and forth from your bed each night/day. The garbage can is in a slide out cabinet in the kitchen but does not close. I hope you guys learn it quicker than I did and end up with less bruises mid-thigh. About day 3, and 3 or 4 bruises later I finally remembered it stood open 5 inches!!!I gave this 4 stars and will absolutely stay again. The few suggestions I have would make it that much better. Close to many places to eat and shop between the island and back across the bridge in Apalachicola. Enjoy your stay.

The cottage was in a great location on the beach. The living room had very comfortable seating and the place was clean and we had plenty of room.

Overall a wonderful experience. The one small drawback was the pot and pan selection for cooking was very sparse. We actually went to the Dollar General Store and bought a 3 piece set (and left it there for future guests).

We had a wonderful week right on the beach in this rental. It was clean and it is apparent that the owners are in the process of fixing it up. As one of the older places on the beach it has only one flight of stairs. That was a distinct advantage for us.
The kitchen has been remodeled and is lovely though not well equipped. We purchased a liquid measuring cup and left it for you.
The beds were very comfortable. Bring blankets or warm pjs until Covid-19 is done. Also bring DVDs because they have been removed because of the virus. There are no closets or hangers, just a couple of hooks for hanging clothes so pack accordingly.
We thoroughly enjoyed the deck morning, noon and night. We observed gulls, pelicans, dolphins, and sunrises. The gulf's white sand beaches are gorgeous.
We would stay here again.
